    Presidents Newsletter July 2018

I love a reason to Dip, Dive, Duck and Dodge, yes you read that correctly!  Members and guests from both the Charlotte Chapters of NACE and ILEA participated in the inaugural NACE/ILEA Charity Dodgeball Tournament last month and it was EPIC!

A huge thank you to the incredible committee of members from both chapters that worked tirelessly on this event from concept to game day.  Without Brittney Derrick, Kelli Taddonio, Michaelina Antahades and Hank Patterson, this new and exciting annual joint meeting would not have been possible.  One of the things I appreciate most about our members is their willingness to think outside of the box and try new things that move our industry forward.

In addition to the dream team mentioned above, the vendor team that sponsored this event was also top notch.  We are thankful for the following sponsors that contributed their products and services to this event:  H&M Catering brought their A game to the tournament with a table spread that went on for days and was equally delicious.  Shutter Hutch Photobooth & Films brought the props and the booth that got all attendees in on the fun.  And of course, Carlos and C’leb Entertainment DJ Services brought the noise (in a good way) with upbeat jams fit for the occasion.

New to the joint NACE/ILEA June meeting was the introduction of raising money for a local charity that is near and dear to our industry, Hospitality House of Charlotte.  All of the proceeds raised from the sale of raffle tickets as well as $5.00 from each ticket was collected and donated to the charity.  In total, Hospitality House of Charlotte received $500.00 from the Charlotte Chapters of NACE and ILEA.

Although one team was officially crowned the champions of the dodgeball tournament, the real winners were everyone who could participate in this inaugural event and in doing so have laid the foundation for the success of future NACE/ILEA Charity Tournaments.

This July over 20 members of the Charlotte NACE chapter will be heading to Experience 2018, the NACE National Conference in Palm Springs, CA.  Our chapter is up for 3 national chapter awards and we look forward to bringing back tons of industry knowledge to be shared with our members at our August conference recap meeting!

Finally, I know this is a long one!  There is still time to sign up for the Members Only mixer that will take place on July 16th from 4:30 – 6:30 at the Coin Rooftop Bar at the Omni Charlotte!  The Omni’s gracious hospitality, view, and menu will not disappoint!  Register on our website and drop by to connect with your fellow NACE Members!

    Sincerely,
    Cristin Corder Lee, CPCE

    Trends

    Savvy technology

In the digital age, it’s no surprise event planners have turned to technology to ramp up their events. There’s an array of high-tech platforms event planners can now use to garner guests’ preferences and discern patterns in activity, letting organizers create a curated experience that ensures maximum impact and engagement for all guests. Progressive event planners are turning to artificial intelligence for things like chatbots, which can answer basic attendee questions swiftly through an event app, or even before your event, through platforms like Facebook Messenger. Plus, let’s not ignore the ultimate party-starter – virtual reality. Virtual reality devices have been popping up more and more at events and this element will really take guests to a whole new dimension… literally.
